Patricia M. Keppler, Practicum Certified Orton-Gillingham Reading Specialist

A calm, personal path from struggling to confident

I fell in love with helping children succeed at reading over 25 years ago, working for multiple school districts along the east coast. I am an expert in evaluating and identifying students and helping them excel in all areas of literacy. I have taken students from being an emergent reader to above grade level reading while enhancing their confidence.

I am also an artistic soul who enjoys painting and needlepoint, focusing on personalization and design, just like how I incorporate creativity and uniqueness into your child's lesson plans.

What learning together looks like

Every lesson is hands-on, personal, and built around your child, whether we meet virtually, in your home, or in mine.

  • Patricia working one-on-one with a young student at a lesson easel
  • A child practicing letter formation with hands-on guidance
  • An older student sorting syllable types with color-coded cards

Is your child struggling with:

  • Identifying the letters and sounds within a word
  • Confused about the correct order and sequence of letters
  • Understanding phonemic awareness (putting sounds together to say or read a whole word)
  • Mixing up sounds, getting sounds in the wrong order while reading words or phrases
  • Inserting sounds that are not in a word, or omitting sounds while reading or writing
  • Struggling with reading comprehension, unable to explain key points of the text
  • Expression, intonation, and inflection while reading

These challenges can significantly impact your child’s reading success. However, all of these concerns can be addressed utilizing a systematic multi-sensory Orton-Gillingham approach, integrating reading fluency, writing and spelling.

FAQ

Common Questions

A few of the questions families ask me most often.

What age range do you work with?

I work with children from Pre-K through 6th grade, from emergent readers just beginning to sound out words to older students who need to close a gap and build fluency and confidence.

What is Orton-Gillingham?

Orton-Gillingham is a structured, sequential, multi-sensory approach to teaching reading and spelling. It breaks language down into its smallest parts and teaches them explicitly, engaging sight, sound, and movement together so learning sticks.

Does my child need a dyslexia diagnosis before we start?

No. A diagnosis is not required to begin. I support and instruct children with dyslexia and a wide range of reading difficulties. Please note that I do not provide formal dyslexia diagnoses or psychoeducational evaluations.

Do you come to our home?

Yes. Lessons can be scheduled virtually, at your home, or at mine, whichever is most convenient for your family.

How long until we see progress?

Every child is different, so I never promise a fixed timeline. What I can tell you is that a consistent, structured multi-sensory approach builds real skills over time, and I will keep you updated on your child’s growth along the way.

Do you offer a discount for more than one child?

Yes, a discount is available for families with multiple children. We can talk through the details during your free consultation.

Ready to help your child read with confidence?

The first step is a free consultation. Call or email Patricia to talk about your child, with no pressure and no obligation.
